The City of Volos Museum Collection contains two main sets of materials – the collections of the Municipal Centre for Historical Research and Documentation of Volos (DIKI), as well as the material acquired after the museum’s inception in 2014.
It consists of objects, photographs, and documents of all types and mediums, which illuminate the history and character of Volos, as well as the Magnesia and Thessaly regions. The collection traces the period from the annexation of Volos to Greece (1881) to the present day.
The digital media collection is a distinct section, which includes an archive of audio recordings of events going back to 1991, as well as the archives of the Volos Municipal Television (1996–1998), interviews, photographs, videos, and other audiovisual material.
By agreement with the Social Anthropology Section, Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology, University of Thessaly, the City of Volos Museum holds the recordings being collected by the department’s Oral History Lab.
